Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdm

Using Kubuntu 10.10 (Maverick), on upgrade to kdm version 4:4.4.80-0ubuntu2 the package manager warned about the fact that the user kdm does not own its own home account (/var/lib/kdm). On reboot this caused error messages to be written to the log (and a drop in functionality because KDM is no longer able to recall the last login name). For instance:

2010-06-01 02:47:18 akron kdm_greet[1334] Data directory "/var/lib/kdm" not accessible: Permission denied

This should be fixed for existing already broken upgrades as well. I just upgraded to KDE 4.5.3, however /var/lib/kdm/kdmsts was still root.root.
