Person chooser doesn't enter text into the field

Bug Description

1. Click "Choose..." next to the assignee field for a bug (for me it happened in bug 58844).
2. Search for a person in the popup window.
3. Click the person you want in the list.

The window closes, but the text field is not filled in.

This is with Safari 1.3.2.

Reproduces in launchpad.dev using firefox 1.5.0.5 in a bug with 2 or more bugtasks.
(e.g. http://launchpad.dev/distros/ubuntu/+bug/2)

In the first bugtask the bug doesn't happen.
In the second and subsequent ones it does.

Something similar can be reproduced in the spec tracker using Safari 2.0.4:

1. make a new spec

2. in the Drafter, Assignee, Approver fields enter a partial email address, e.g. "mbp@", and press submit

3. As expected, get a "an error occurred" (which is a separate bug) and dropdowns next to each field asking me to confirm which matching person I want. When I pick one, I expect it to fill in the field with the right email address and name, but it does not. Pressing submit again takes me back to the same field. I need to enter the full address by hand to continue.
