Bug Description

We're sorry; the installer crashed. Please file a new bug report at https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+filebug (do not attach your details to any existing bug) and a developer will attend to the problem as soon as possible. To help the developers understand what went wrong, include the following detail in your bug report, and attach the files /var/log/installer/syslog, /var/log/syslog, and /var/log/partman:

Hope this all helps.

Must say, my PC is acting weird lately - possible hardware issues??!

Runs just fine as a Live CD though, just have issues installing the O/S (6.06 LTS, 6.06.1 or whatever the newer Dapper release is that recently came out and now this Knot2 release of Edgy)

so who knows...

If you look in /var/log/syslog, the kernel is very unhappy about reading from some bits of the CD. There's lots of this sort of thing:

Jan 1 00:08:49 ubuntu kernel: [17180021.216000] SQUASHFS error: zlib_fs returned unexpected result 0xfffffffd
Jan 1 00:08:49 ubuntu kernel: [17180021.216000] SQUASHFS error: Unable to read page, block 211a1282, size 829e

I'd suggest burning at a lower speed and/or cleaning your CD drive lens.
