Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-mplayer

ubuntu lucid 32bit, latest stable+proposed updates

When starting gnome-mplayer, it sets its volume to the same level as global pulseaudio volume.
For example, if my global volume is 50%, gnome-mplayer's is also 50% (which, combined, gives 25% of full volume).

Steps to reproduce:
1. lower your system volume to a very low value
2. turn up your speakers to compensate
3. start gnome-mplayer, observe that you don't hear anything anyway

Expected result:
gnome-mplayer should start with 100% volume (so that its output is at system volume's level) or with the value from last run.

What happens instead:
gnome-mplayer copies system volume and makes its sound output more silent than you want.

This is a bug in mplayer, it has been fixed in newer versions of mplayer.

I use mplayer 1.0rc4-4.5.2 with gnome-mplayer 1.0.0 (natty) and I still have this problem.

Do you know which version of mplayer fixes this bug ?

actually, this is a bug in gnome-mplayer. mplayer itself doesn't exhibit the problem

Volume control has been completely reworked in gnome-mplayer version 1.0.2, it should be much better if compiled with alsa and pulse audio support. Separation from system volume is still possible by enabling software volume control as well.
