Bug Description

The printer is a HP Deskjet 3820 and I'm using the HPIJS driver From my googling, it seems to not be restricted to this printer. Many Deskjets seem to have this problem. Both evince and xpdf print only the top half of the last line of all the pdfs I've tried (all academic articles) and does not print all of the outer lines that travel around the margins in the test page. I wish I had a scanner to demonstrate the problem. I would have guessed that these margin problem would be due to mistaken page size settings, but its set to "letter" everywhere (I'm in the US).

For some reason, however, acroread prints it these last lines perfectly.

Do you mean not restricted to that driver or printer? I'm struggling to find mention of the problem, maybe my google-fu is weak. Do you have an example search query?

What version of libpoppler1 do you have installed?

Changed in poppler:
status: Unconfirmed → Needs Info

Also what do you mean by "incompletely prints"? It stops printing half way through the line?

Sorry, I meant not restricted to that printer. It seems to happen with quite a few HP Deskjets. libpoppler1's version is 0.5.1-0ubuntu7 (this being a bug report for Dapper, sorry for the confusion).

By "incompletely prints", I meant the bottom half does not print, as if the margins are off. I'll edit the bug report to clarify.

xpdf doesn't use popler.

It'd be a cups or gs issue, or acroread resizing the output.

Can you post the output of
pdfinfo --box yourfile.pdf

and your printer driver name? ( I guess HP-DeskJet_3820-hpijs.ppd)

Are the pdf available somewhere legally?

Sorry, I just thought poppler was the best place for it as it incorporated huge chunks of xpdf code.

Yes, popler is a fork of xpdf pdf rendering but by default they differ for printing.

xpdf use its own functions aka pdftops and send a ps file.

evince copy the pdf, which is translated later by cups with gs.

And I made a mistake myself :)
its
pdfinfo -box
not --box.

The paper is <a href="http://somethingsimilar.com/papers/pegg_age.pdf">up</a>. In my /etc/cups/ppd directory, there is only one ppd file, DeskJet-3820.ppd. However, diff tells me there is no difference between it and the HP-DeskJet_3820-hpijs.ppd file elsewhere on my system. Also, the output from `pdfinfo -box pegg_age.pdf` is:

Thanks,

Your printer has HWMargins: 18 36 18 9 points and havn't a full bleed mode.
It can't print in the last half inch.

If I'm right when printing the test page with acroread you should see these margins.

I haven't acroread for linux (ppc box) but on a Mac by default it ajusts to margin so it prints the test page at 93% centered (for a4).

What's you want it's the same thing in Evince printing dialog box.

So, what exactly needs to be changed in Evince and xpdf? I'm a little confused.

For evince a better gnome or gtk print dialog.
