Bug Description

Binary package hint: mplayer

Neither Mplayer nor Totem work with the codecs any more after today's update.

I have tried to purge and reinstall w32codecs but it doesn't solve the problem.

Only Vlc seems to work.

If I try to play an avi file in Totem it says that:
Video codec 'XviD' is not handled. You might need to install additional plugins to be able to play some types of movies

but the codecs are installed

The problem affects Ubuntu Edgy 6.10

I can play both fine on i386. What architecture are you using?

With both mplayer-nogui and totem-xine that is.

mplayer is Version: 2:0.99+1.0pre8-0ubuntu6
totem-xine is Version: 2.16.1-1ubuntu1

I've noticed that if I try to play the files from the command line in mplayer they work. If use them from the GUI they don't

here is the output of the command line when they work:
alberto@alberto-desktop:~/codec/codecnew$ mplayer /media/hdc5/alberto/Shared/"DragonBall Z - Movie 14 - History of Trunks.avi"

Ok, I have installed totem-gstreamer and reinstalled totem-xine and now I can play my videoclips again. It looks like this "libxine-extracodecs" was uninstalled by some other application (I guess)

I have another problem with Mplayer when I play another file (which works just fine now). I complains about this:

Error
Requested audio codec family [mp3] (afm=mp3lib) not available. Enable it a compilation

But the file plays smoothly
