Unity crashes on ATI Radeon

it is an Acer Aspire 5738 PZ with cando multi-touch screen and ATI HD 4570 GC

Might be a duplicate of 628727 ?

We believe this bug is fixed by this package, if it is not please reopen this bug.

Bug was fixed in mesa update. closing unity task.

Not fixed for me in Ubuntu 10.10 on Acer Aspire One 521 with Radeon HD4225.

With fglrx driver neither the launcher on the left, nor the panel appears. Also the window manager is not present.
Starting with a gnome-terminal as an "autostart" app shows nothing but the terminal without any window around it.
Starting either Unity or Mutter from this terminal only gives "Segmentation fault". Starting Metacity from that terminal works fine though.

The opensource driver works okay. It may not be as good accelerated as the proprietary one but is okay. Has some drawing issues on the launcher icons and right beside them on the desktop (while hovering) though.
