Bug Description

Trace back (most recent call last)
File "/usr/bin/ubiquity", line 130, in? install(sys argv[1]

File "/usr/bin/ubiquity", line 55,in install ret=wizard.run()

File"/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/ubiquity/frontend/gtkvi.py",line264,in run self.progress_loop()

File "/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/ubiquity/frontend/gtkvi.py",line553, in progress_loop raise RuntimeError, ("install failed with exit code%s,see"
RuntimeError: Install failed with exit code/:see/var/log/installer/syslog and /var/log/syslog

I am new to ubuntu and was trying to install. When the install failed the screen advised me to log a new bug report and attach files /var/log/installer/syslog, /var/log.syslog and /var/log/partman

I dont know how to do that .
I tried to log the report with ubuntu running but had to register with launchpad.net.
This meant I had to crash the system as it froze instead of shutting down.
I noticed that while trying to exit there was a message " Stopping RAID monitoring services
       Failed"
So to register I had to boot up in Windows

I was told to place bug report at https://launchpad.net/ditros/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+filebug
However when I registered and looked for that page I was informed that the page was not found.

I dont think I made any errors in the pathways above but as i had to copy longhand and then type it in it is possible that some of the spacing is wrong. apologies in advance if this is the case.

Could you please attach /var/log/installer/syslog, /var/log/syslog, and /var/log/partman to this bug, by commenting on the bug's web page? Thanks in advance.

I would attach the files to the web page if I knew how.
I tried to install from a disc.
I had to crash it to get out.
So I dont know if this data has been saved anywhere and if it is I dont know how to get it.
I am new to this, puttering about in the dark, so advice would be appreciated.
I can try installing again to see if the same problem reoccurs, but if I still do not know how to access the files, I wouldnt be able to provide you with the necessary information.

If you closed your Live CD session the data wasn't preserved. If you would like to install it again and the same problem occurred, please do not shutdown your computer, press Alt+F2 and type "/var/log/" in the Run Application dialog. Afterwards, open requested files by double-clicking them and post their contents here.

Thanks in advance!

I have tried again today and at the second attempt it installed. However when I tried to boot from the hard disc the boot failed. I got an error when GRUB was trting to load. Error 18.

Its good to know that it was not a bug.
I would like to thank you for your quick and very helpful response.
