Bug Description

My screen randomly goes black and then my hard disk light just stays on constantly. My monitor says "no signal". This mostly happens at the same time as the splash screen should appear at boot time but also happens when I'm working in Gnome (usually when I open an application). This problem has been happening to me with more recent kernels for Dapper and the one that comes with Edgy Beta.

When I use the version of Dapper that installs of the CD it works fine and this problem doesn't occur.

Due to the problem I've been unable to update to the latest version of Edgy.

Here is some information about my hardware and I can provide more if required:

Does it help if you boot without the "splash" and "quiet" options?

Hiya, thanks for your email. I would like to try that
suggestion. I'm not sure how to do that so I hope you
can tell me how to do it. Then I'll let you know if
your suggestion works.

Thanks,
John

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Thanks in advance.

May have been an issue with the motherboard.
Everything worked fine when the motherboard was
changed. I can provide more information about the
motherbaord when I get home from work.

Thanks,

John

Do you mean the motherboard may have been bad / broken or that the motherboard was incompatible somehow?
