Bug Description

Hi,

in /usr/share/doc/exim4-base/README.Debian.gz it says one should read /usr/share/doc/exim4-base/spec.txt. Apparently, ubuntu has gzipped the file unlike upstream. So, this should be /usr/share/doc/exim4-base/spec.txt.gz.

Regards

Rolf

Thanks for pointing this out. I'll put together a patch at some point, and chuck it at Debian.

Dan, please don't set bugs to "In Progress" if you are not working on them.

Hopefully debdiff is ok.

This is an overworked version of the debdiff. Fixed some beginner faults ;)

Stefan: what does "Firefox seems to break the debdiffs!?" mean? Also Philipp's patch is more accurate as it fixes more issues in README.Debian.xml it seems.

Mathias: can you please take a look at it?

I gather from Daniel's comment that Mathias is the next in the process chain to ACK or NACK. Assigning to him (I hope I got the right one ;-))

Thanks for you contribution to Ubuntu.

Your debdiff looks almost good:
  * the maintainer should be set to ubuntu-core-dev instead of ubuntu-motu - see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebianMaintainerField.

I'd also like to correct other occurrence of wrong file names in the documentation: could you check that all files that are in /usr/share/doc/exim4-base/ are referenced correctly ?

Documentation files are automatically compressed by the build system - thus filenames ended with .gz instead of .txt.

Once you've prepared a new debdiff, re-subscribe ubuntu-main-sponsors.

Thank you.

Most other docs in /usr/share/doc/exim4-base/ are original documentation from source tarball and I presume, would require a patch to the original tarball to fix references to other docs. IMHO, it is probably OK to leave the original docs untouched since an intelligent user would easily be able to work out the location of the other referenced documentation and that it is gzip compressed.

In addition, two documents from the original documentation are not in the /usr/share/doc/exim4-base/, they are:
- experimental-spec.txt
- pcretest.txt

The only difference in the debdiff provided is in the maintainer field. If any other work needs to be done for this bug, I would be happy to do it.

Thanks for your new debdiff.

I agree with not patching the documentation from the source tarball - that may require a huge patch.

pcretest.txt is left out as it's a copy of the pcretest man page, which is already installed on the system.

experimental-spec.txt describes experimental features in exim4 none of which are compiled and available by default.

Your debdiff targets hardy in the changelog, which is currently closed. Could you target intrepid (the current development release) instead ?
