Fan stays on after resume from S3

I have the same issue using linux-image-2.6.17-10-generic on Edgy. I am running on a Gateway 450 laptop.

I fixed the problem by placing the attached script in /etc/acpi/resume.d/99-turn-fan-off.sh

Thanks very much, but I returned that computer and got another. Anyway, the script would not have worked because there was no acpi fan control in that bios.

yeah, i have the same problem in Gutsy Gibbon. it's annoying and is the one thing that makes me boot to windows. I don't know if my laptop acts in the same way with the certain temperatures but the fan comes on and won't shut off; happens after every suspend and resume. Toshiba Satellite m115-s3094

1. Output of uname -a
    * uname -a > uname.txt
2. Output of sudo lspci -vvnn
    * sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci.txt
3. Output of sudo dmidecode
    * sudo dmidecode > dmidecode.txt

4. Tarball of /proc/acpi directory. You can't just tar all files because their content sometimes changes etc.
    * cp -r /proc/acpi /tmp
    * tar -cvjf ~/acpi.tar.bz /tmp/acpi
    * attach acpi.tar.bz from your home directory

The problem still exists in Ubuntu 9.04 - Jaunty Jackalope with a HP Compaq 6735s notebook.

The fan can be manually silenced via:
echo 3 > /proc/acpi/fan/FAN3/state

but somehow, the modified script (FAN3 required here) from above isn't executed when put in /etc/acpi/resume.d/99-turn-off-fan.sh.

As per your request, I've captured the ACPI debugging information.

Re-opening because the bug still occurs on Ubuntu 9.04 - Jaunty Jackalope. Attached requested ACPI debugging info.

Addendum: I found another related defect for my particular notebook model: "Noisy fan after resume on HP 6735s (reproducibility about 20%)" at https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/343128

linux-source-2.6.15 task should be invalid because there is no 2.6.15 kernel in Ubuntu 9.04.
That's why I've opened a new Linux task.

There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. If you could test the current Ubuntu development version (10.04), this would help us a lot. If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect <bug #>, and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
