Edgy - Boot stops

Bug Description

I just installed Edgy Beta on Yakumo Green550 and accepted all auto-update requests. Next reboot stopped saying:
"[...]
* Checking file systems...
fsck 1.39 (29-May-2006) [ok]" in the ctrl+alt+f8 screen

I could still ctrl+alt+f1 and login and even startx
There's a message saying "failed to initialize hal" and a message that speedstepping will be disabled. Programs and stuff seem to work.

/var/log/boot has an [ok] at the end of each line. Last line is
*setting up console keymap... [ok]

I just reinstalled Edgy Beta and updated - and everything worked fine.
Maybe it was about hybernate when a reboot was recommended for the updates.

may be the installation medium should make sure the user reboots instead of taking other actions? maybe enable only "reboot" after an install?

This doesn't appear to be a ubiquity bug.

same to me, not in beta but in released. More less 20 minutes after "Checking file systems... fsck 1.39" system is continuing booting prosses, but it's too much.
