byobu stops working with 3.8 upgrade

Bug Description

Symptom: ssh connection to server does not default into my typical 5 window byobu environment
Symptom: use of byobu from the command line, does nothing.

I did an upgrade last night to the version that was pre-3.8. I lost my status bar colors and half of my status reporting fields.

This morning I saw there was another update to 3.8 and I did it. Now byobu doesn't work at all.

If I do byobu -v it comes back with:
byobu version 3.8
Screen version 4.00.03jw4 (FAU) 2-May-06

so i know the update worked but now it doesn't run.

My windows file and status file were copied over appropriately to .locale/share/byobu

This is all due to trying to migrate byobu to xdg user dirs.

I'm about to revert all of that.

Same here using ZSH,

if I issue 'bash byobu' works as expected.

While trying to debug #673728 I ran into a similar problem. Byobu failed to start when it found a .local/share/byobu dir and a .byobu symlink to it. Deleting the last one fixed the problem for me.
