Bug Description

I just did a clean install of 10.10 on an ACER Aspire 5515. It had 10.04 up to that point, with no issues at all. Now, when I unplug the AC, I lose wireless network connectivity. The Network Connection status shows that it tries to connect, and it eventually asks for password. I re-enter p/w but it won't connect. If I plug the power cord back in, it still won't connect until I restart the system. If I start up in battery mode, it won't connect at all. I have the broadcom driver installed, same as with 10.04.
I'm really just at user level, but have installed every version since 9.04 on the same machine with no issues. Any suggestions on how to correct this, as the laptop goes with me a lot, and I have to be able to use it on battery and still have wireless connection.

I also have the same issue on an Asus EEE 901 - requires restart to restore the wireless network connectivity.

Moved this to bug reports even though question answered as should probably be fixed.

I'm sorry, but was there an answer to this issue somewhere??

I think I'm confused lol. By the way, I went back to 10.04, and have had no issues for 2 weeks. So it's definitely a 10.10 issue.

Fabio,

I did have it installed. I removed it and went back to Lucid this morning after hours of frustration. Lucid is working fine, with absolutely no issues. I installed 10.10 2 different ways with the exact same results. First, I did an upgrade from 10.04. When I had the problem, I did a new install (erased the hd and installed the new OS), and had the same problem. When I installed wicd, I completely lost all connectivity, and could not activate the broadcomm wireless drivers. The system would lock up completely. I like the look of the new release, but can't make it work, and since I need to have this machine working, I opted to go back to something that worked well for me. Again, I'm just what I would call a beginner to intermediate user, so I don't go digging beyond what I can find in step-by-step instructions when it comes to the system itself. I wish I could give more specific detailed information, but all I can tell you is that, for some reason, the wireless network does not work at all under battery power under 10.10, but is working fine, even as I type this, under 10.04 on the same machine, so it's not a hardware issue....
I have to believe other users are experiencing this???

Hi Fabio,

yes, netbook was booted up running plugged in. As soon as I unplugged
the power cable, it went to battery power and lost the wireless
connection. Plugging the cable back in did not restore the wireless
connection - I had to restart (plugged in) to get the connection back.

RosieG, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Maverick reached EOL on April 10, 2012.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We were wondering if this is still an issue in a supported release? If so, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in a supported release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.
