Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Installing 3TB WD HDD, Installer initially crashed displaying a message that was not readable. I have attached a screen shot. The HDD was formatted as EXT4 and never installed ie a GPT partition was never created on this disk, as it is brand new. Also this system has UEFI version 2.1, I was able to install with the same USB stick on a similar system with UEFI2.3.

The message (screenshot posted in Comment #2) was displayed hitting the enter key I got it to boot to X, it reported several applets failed, and then I clicked on install the system, and the installer crashed as reported.

thought I will also mention that after I reported this problem, and closed firefox, the installer allowed me to install the system and it completed. (I would expect since I reported a bug with ubiquity it should offer to power down the machine or simply quit installing at this point), but when I reboot the system, I get a grub rescue prompt.

I recreated the usb stick with Natty AMD64 PC image and I get the same result, I just wanted to rule out USB image corruption due to my previous install. While installing on 2.5Tb and 3Tb disk the installer quits and boots into ubuntu live cd image.

Can you tell us roughly what geographical region you were in when attempting this installation? This is happening on the timezone page; since you mention reproducing this and don't mention doing anything in particular on the timezone page where this crash happens, I'm guessing it must arise from your GeoIP-detected location.

I was connected to the network and it normally picks up Chicago as my location, Chicago is in the same time zone as Austin (Central US).
