Bug Description
Binary package hint: usplash
This seems to be a 64bit only bug.
On the 64bit version of all the variations of edgy, usplash doesn't display the proper images while booting. The images are not the high quality ones, used during a 32bit boot. They are low res, in the case of the logo, or non-existant, in the case of the progress bar. This occurs on both the Desktop Install live CDs as well as the final installed system.
There are similar bugs on here, but they mostly deal with he colors (which is part of the problem); but if we can figure out why it seems that usplash isn't displaying the images properly, I have a feeling the colors will iron themselves out.

I can confirm this. The images also aren't scaled properly, and are aligned to the top left corner of the screen. There's no progress bar, and neither any startup or shutdown messages, even if "quiet" is removed from grub.
In case of Kubuntu, the usplash image looks like that used in Dapper.
Usplash in 32 bit environments works just fine, but the 64 bit version seems severely bugged.
