Bug Description

It would be great if Plank had a plugin API that let people write docklets similar to those in Docky.

No. This goes against the 'stupidly simple' mantra of Plank.

OK. Thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. :)

I still think it would be great to have a lightweight dock written in Vala that can display a set of docklets similar to those found in Docky: I'd like to be able to see a clock, network icon and so on there. I personally would rather see notification information in that form (large, colorful icons) rather than in a gnome-panel-like application as found in Unity and GNOME Shell, for instance. Since it's clear that's outside of the scope of Docky, I'll consider starting a separate project for such a dock.

The plan is to extend Plank and create Docky 3.0.

In a sense, Docky is being ported to Vala. But not a direct port as a lot is being rewritten to improve the core.

Ah, I see. Sounds like a great plan.
