Same thing happend on my Blue & White G3 and my Powerbook G3. Install DID work on iMac G4
I tried again to Install on my G3 Powerbook and I used the TAB key to select live-powerpc and it booted up and installed properly. . . I noticed the difference when the live CD booted into Ubuntu, i.e. I had the install icon on the desktop which I did not have before; along with the power monitor etc. . .
Good luck!
