Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I'm trying to intaller Dapper from a Live CD. The HDD is new with 120GB. I set aside the first 40GB for Windows XP but it is not yet installed. The rest of the space I set aside for Ubuntu. An extended partition of 26GB was set aside for '/' (100Mb), '/usr' (10Gb), and the rest is reserved for future use. The third partition is 45Gb for '/home' and the last partition, 4GB, is for '/swap'. I have a second hard drive, a slave drive with 40GB. It is not part of the installation.

It looks like your root partition wasn't large enough for the installed system. The version of the installer in Ubuntu 8.04 handles this better by first warning you that you do not have enough space to complete the install and then, if you choose to proceed, lets you know exactly why the file copy failed in the user interface.

I'm marking this bug as Fix Released, but if you are able to reproduce it in 8.04 please feel free to reopen it and attach a new /var/log/syslog and /var/log/partman following http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingUbiquity/AttachingLogs.

Thanks and sorry for being so late in reply.
