Bug Description

Thanks for reporting the bug. Since the official language used by this bugtracker is English, I have translated your report to that language for the convenience of non-Italian readers.
-----
Firefox hangs when you open Web pages and stops hanging after about 10 minutes, or the message to kill the program appears. A similar issue occurs for Thunderbird; it is not possible to configure a new account manually if it can't automatically detect configuration parameters. Evolution hangs immediately when I try to configure an account.
-----
The programs you have listed are different, but I suspect that either (1) your system is slow and hangs, especially if more applications are open at the same time or desktop effects are enabled, or (2) your Internet connection is quite slow and the programs hang, waiting for a response from the server.

Could you please answer these questions so that we are able to reproduce the bugs and fix them?
* Are the bugs reproducible (do they happen every time you try to open Web pages, configure an account...)?
* If yes, could you please write in detail what steps do we need to perform to reproduce the bug?
* Which Flash package do you have installed?
* Which Java package do you have installed?
* Which Firefox and Thunderbird extensions do you have installed?
* Do you experience the crashes when you open a particular Web page or do they happen for every page?
* Do Firefox and Thunderbird hang even if you execute them in "safe mode" (see <https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs#Try_running_in_safe_mode> for an explanation)?
Thanks.

provato ad escludere l'utilizzazione dell'IPV6 utilizzando soltanto
l'IPV4. Conseguentemente ho notato um piccolo miglioramento in Firefox
plugin, Sun Java 6 Fonts, Sun Java 6 Bin e Sun Java 6 JRE. In Firefox
trovo installate:

i seguenti Plugin:
- DVX Web Player;
- Gnome Shell Integration;
- IcedTea-Web Plugin (using iceTead Web 1.1.13 (1.1g-1 Ubuntu 1));
- QuikTime Plug-in 7.6.6;
- Shokwawe Flash;
- WLC Media Plugin (compatibile Totem 3.0.1);
-Windows Media Player Plugin (compatibile; Totem).

e le seguenti estensioni:
- Adblok Plus 1.3.10;
- Add-onCompatibility Reporter 0.9.2;
- Dizionario Italiano 3.3.1;
- DownloadHelper 4.9.5;
- Download Status Bar 0.9.10;
- DownTemAll 2.0.8;
- Faster Fox Lite 3.9.1 Lit;
- Global Menù Bar Integration 2.0.1;
- gTranslate 0.8;
- InstanFox 2.0.8;
- PlacesCleaner 0.41;
- SearchPreview 5.0.9;
- Test Pilot 1.2

Giorno 01/11/2011 ore 9,00 circa
  Dopo quanto sopra esposto ieri sera, i problemi sembravano tutti
Ieri sera Firefox funzionava perfettamente, stamane dopo l'installazione
manualmente i vari account.

Giorno 31/10/2011 ore 19,00 circa
Penso di aver rissolto definitamente tutti i problemi:Da Gestore
pacchetti->Synaptic->Repository->Sorgenti Software->Autenticazione, ho

I'm translating the relevant portion of your reply again for the other readers. In the future, could you please write *only* in English? I'm asking that because, in case we find the exact nature of the problem and must send this report to the Mozilla developers, most of them (as well as most Ubuntu developers) do not speak Italian.
Also, I don't think that posting your address and telephone number publicly (in your reply) is a good idea. You may have not noticed that your bug report has been publicly posted to the Launchpad Web interface (at <https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/883892>) for anyone (developers, testers...) to see. I have already contacted the Launchpad Support team, asking them to redact those pieces of information from your comment.

First of all, in this bug report I will deal only with the issues you are experiencing with Firefox. Since I suspect that they are caused either by high memory consumption or one of your extensions, I kindly ask you to perform these steps.
1) Exit Firefox completely.
2) After the window has closed, wait some seconds, open a Terminal and type "killall firefox" (without quotes). This will make sure that Firefox is not running any more (not even in background).
3) From the Ter...

Could you please unplug your webcam/camera, reboot and see if everything works? I've noticed that your log files show a message ("cannot set freq 16000 to ep 0x86") related to a known bug in the Linux kernel (bug #681189, bug #459445, bug #884210), unplugging the webcam should fix the bug.

tutti i problemi sembrano risolti.
Grazie

As suggested,Idisconnected theLogitech HDWebcamC310,and for
now,allproblems seemsolved.EvenFirefoxno longer crashes.Shows thatthere
were noproblemswithUbuntu 10.10.Do you think thatthe bugissolved?..or do
I haveto buyanotherwebcam?.I'm sorry becauseWindowshas avery
goodoperation.thanks

I think the bug can be solved, however the needed time depends on the goodwill of the developers. (According to the other bug reports I have linked, the problem seems to be present even on some installations of Ubuntu 9.10. I hope the bug will be fixed soon.)

I have collected some existing bug reports and filed a new one against the current Ubuntu version so that the kernel team will be able to have a look at it. If you want to follow the progress, see bug #884210. I'm marking this bug report as a duplicate of that one, feel free to comment there. Thanks for your collaboration!

Evasio Luotto, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.11-rc5

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.
