Bug Description

Lightning interface is only available in English when installed from the Ubuntu repositories.

When Lightning is installed from the Mozillla add-ons, happens that time to time it breaks for a while; what is important if all you organization is performed in Lightning. So the only way Lightning to be reliable is from installing it from the repositories, but there people who don't speak English won't be able to use it properly.

Since the lightning extension for Thunderbird is provided via the official repositories, these repositories should also contain all available locale file like it is done for the "thunderbird" package.

To provide translations it is enough to

1)

Include the corresponding jars in a locales package or even in the base lightning package.

Example:

/usr/lib/xul-ext/lightning/chrome/calendar-pt-PT.jar
/usr/lib/xul-ext/lightning/chrome/lightning-pt-PT.jar

2)

Update the chrome.manifest file to include the corresponding lines:

locale calendar pt-PT jar:chrome/calendar-pt-PT.jar!/locale/pt-PT/calendar/
locale lightning pt-PT jar:chrome/lightning-pt-PT.jar!/locale/pt-PT/lightning/

Chris, since this bug impacts accessibility of a core application, it should have a priority of "high".

Lightning certainly isn't a core application and you're asking for additional functionality that has never existed in the package we provide. In the context of Thunderbird that definitely isn't "high". "high" would be appropriate if a set of existing translations for the main Thunderbird UI stopped working, but not for a request for additional languages for an optional addon that resides in universe

Chris, one the other hand, this bug:

- Impacts accessibility of a non-core application.
- Doesn't provide the accessibility functionality that the add-on has in the Mozilla add-ons repository.

So perhaps it has rather an importance of "medium".
