Bug Description

There is a known bug in afpfs-ng 0.8.1 as described here:

    https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=538699

For example:

    mount_afp afp://user:<email address hidden>/files /home/trustin/files

always fails with the following error message after a while:

Could not connect, never got a response to getstatus, Connection timed out

After applying the following patch, rebuilding afpfs-ng-utils-0.8.1-2 from source package, fetched from 12.04 LTS, fixes the problem:

    https://bugzilla.redhat.com/attachment.cgi?id=397155

This bug makes it impossible for a user to connect to the file volumes shared by Apple Mac OS X. I can always reproduce the problem with 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin).

Have the same problem, running x64 version of Ubuntu 12.04.

After upgrading from 11.10, now when trying to connect to afp share:

- "Could not connect, never got a response to getstatus, Connection timed out"

Trying installing packages linked to by trustin on 2012-03-23 "DEB packages rebuilt with patch applied (x86_64)

- Same error occurs, no different than before.

All help appreciated!

M.

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

It used to work when I was using the pre-release version, but not anymore. I don't have a clue now. :-(

This bug is already solved in Fedora (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=538699) so hopefully Ubuntu will follow soon.

Are there any updates on this bug for Ubuntu?

I just started seeing the same problem after upgrading to Ubuntu 12.04.

When running mount_afp afp://user:pass@server destination, it pauses for a few seconds and then gives the "Could not connect, never got a response to getstatus, Connection timed out" error.

Thanks for trying trustin! My experience is the same as above - I get the timeout error with the repo build and with trustin's build.

Potential workaround:

For those simply trying to mount a Mac OS X AFP share from Ubuntu 12.04, gvfs-mount seems to do the trick. I'm not sure why googling for "mount afp from ubuntu" didn't seem to turn it up.

>gvfs-mount afp://username@server/share_name/
Enter password for afp as username on server
Password:
>ls -la ~/.gvfs
total 4
dr-x------ 3 local_username local_group 0 Mar 19 09:11 .
drwxr-xr-x 43 local_username local_group 4096 Mar 19 11:43 ..
drwx------ 1 local_username local_group 0 Mar 19 12:35 AFP volume share_name for username on server

I can't quickly find a way to change this mount point, but you can always link that directory elsewhere.
This is what the nautilus GUI file browser uses when you mount AFP drives from the "Browse Network" tab.

As workaround applied patches from https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=538699 and rebuiled
package. It solved issue for me.

I am also encountering this error using Ubuntu 18.04:

mount_afp afp://plex:<my-password>@10.0.0.11/Mermaid /mnt/afp
Mounting 10.0.0.11 from Mermaid on /mnt/afp
Could not connect, never got a response to getstatus, Connection timed out

And running afpgetstatus:

afpgetstatus afp://10.0.0.11
trying 10.0.0.11 ...
Server name: Mermaid
Machine type: TimeCapsule6,109
AFP versions:
     AFP3.2
     AFP3.1
UAMs:
     DHCAST128
     DHX2
     Recon1
Signature: 364639303339415732554a007369672d

Is there anyway you can just send me all the source code with the patch for Ubuntu so I can compile it?

Thanks!
