A project started by students of Abilene Christian University to bring the freedom of FOSS to university students, faculty, and staff. The ACUOS project is striving to bring cohesion to all the devices used by the modern student and instructor. ACUOS is a derivative of Kubuntu for a modern, polished look and for the use of plasmoids and activities. The Kubuntu Active project is perfect for tablets and other mobile devices thereby bringing cohesion to the student experience. Students will get experience working on a project by contributing to ACUOS, not just CS or IT either. This project is bringing in talent from across the academic spectrum, such as the art depts. to work on icons, wallpapers, window decorations, etc. and the english dept to work on documentation that will speak to the average user by eliminating a lot of geeky tech speak that is prevalent in a lot of documentation today. The ACUOS project team is also developing new apps as well as improving others. We welcome contributors from across the globe, not just Abilene Christian University.
