Thanks for your bug.
Can you please reproduce the steps to encounter the bug and give us the content of /var/log/daemon.log file and the output of "dmesg" command

Hi Maftoul, many thanks for your reply. I wasn't expecting one. We are currently evaluating Launchpad as a tool to track and solve bugs related to Ubuntu running on our computers, hence the lousy bug report. This is a common bug for our customers and may be a BIOS problem. I'm not sure. dmesg shows the wireless radio is off; however, the hardware switch is on and the wireless LED is on.

Reproduce:

Suspend computer
Resume
Network Manager wireless networks are not available.

Turning off and them back on the wireless switch fixes the problem most of the time. This occurs in Edgy and Feisty.

New dmesg after resume and failed network manager. Error "[ 4378.080000] ipw3945: Error sending LEDS_CMD: time out after 500ms." looks relevant. Another bug report referencing the error and suspend/hibernate:

You might try upgrading to Feisty.
We've had some reports that this has fixed the problem.
If it does, could you please reply back and let me know.

Best,
Tom

I'm sorry to say that it has not been working for me under Feisty. I upgraded to Feisty with a clean install. I was able to resolve this problem under Edgy, but the same procedures that worked under Edgy do not work on Feisty.

I detail what I have tried in this forum post: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=425474

Any other options? I would appreciate any kind of work around you have.

It looks like AusIV4 may have figured out the answer...

He says:
"For what it's worth, the wireless light on the front of my Gazelle turns off as soon as it suspends on feisty, and doesn't come back until I do a full reboot. In Edgy, it only goes off when I hibernate or shut down. I added ipw3945 to MODULES_WHITELIST in /etc/default/acpi-support, restarted acpid and acpi-support, suspended, the light stayed on, when I restarted, wireless was back."

I'll do some testing on it next week.
