Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
Please run the installer again in debug mode by typing `ubiquity -d` in a console. Run the installer until it crashes and then attach /var/log/installer/debug and /var/log/syslog to this bug report. Detailed instructions for doing so can be found here:

(There is no need for debug mode here. The syslog from an ordinary installation will do fine.)

Hi Colin,

Thank you for your coment.
I'm a lay person to Linux. So lots of the terms used are new to me.

My present laptop is a Mac iBook running OS_X 10.4.9 and am happy with it.
I just want to 'dip my toes' into Ubuntu as I've been reading a lot of
positive news about it.

So, what I did was to attach an external hdd with two (2) partitions created
using Mac OS_X's "Disk Utility".
The 1st. partition is about 7GB and is formatted in "Free space".
The 2nd is a bare install of Mac OS_X 10.4.

I then reboot using the Ubuntu 6.10 Install CD and then click on the Install
icon, and chose the external hdd as the target and the "Continous free
space" option.
The installation went smoothly UNTIL at about the 97% install complete
stage.
The install stalled, a message stating something like "yaboot" failed to
install. I know that "Yaboot" stands for "Yet Another Boot".
:-)

That's where I stopped "for a cup of coffee".

Regards,

Sin-Wah Tan

PS:
I've installed Ubuntu 6.06 successfully into another external hdd before
this episode.
