Ubuntu doesn't ship a libc installed in /usr/lib, but /lib. Which libc packages did you install, did you install libc on your own?

Sorry for the delayed reply. I noticed numerous updates for 7.0.4b were being released. So, I did a complete removal of OpenOffice, including all instances found in "/home". Then re-installed the latest OO packages (2.2.0-1ubuntu3). OpenOffice now works perfectly.

 Thanks,

 rebar
