Binary package hint: gcompris

Rosetta shows that gcompris French translation is complete (last modification on 03-03-2007).
https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/feisty/+source/gcompris/+pots/gcompris/fr/+translate

However, the interface of gcompris in Feisty is only partially translated. If I download the po from Rosetta, I can see that untranslated strings in the interface are in fact commented in the po, as if the po template didn't match the current version of gcompris.
E.g.
#~ msgid "Mathematical activities."
#~ msgstr "Activités de mathématiques."

As the French author of GCompris, I confirm the issue and it's very annoying. GCompris is not usable in french schools due to this bug.

Yes, confirmed in a freshed installed Gutsy. What's happening here !?! The pot file in Launchpad is probably outdated (Launchpad: 1006 strings, upstream: 1193).

This is likely a problem with Ubuntu packaging: upstream tarball doesn't include the POT, and it's not recreated for the Ubuntu package, so Launchpad doesn't ever get a new POT to import.

Generating a pot is maybe Ubuntu specific. So... would it be sufficient just to add the following line in debian/rules?

    cd obj-$(DEB_BUILD_GNU_TYPE) && $(MAKE)

+ cd po && intltool-update --verbose -p

    touch build-stamp

Would it be possible to upload a fresh pot file manually, allowing the next language-pack update to include a complete translation? It would be very much appreciated!

OK, I *think* I've got this fixed in Hardy with gcompris 8.4.2-1ubuntu1 . We'll have to wait until the first lang packs to come out (might be soonish) to know for sure. I've also sent a Rosetta admin a .pot for Gutsy so that we can get the Gutsy translations included in -updates.

Some progress! It looks like the next lang-pack update should have good translations. I got the translations as of 2008-1-25 and there are lots of gcompris.po files and comparing the French .po to the one that is shipped with gcompris it looks like everything worked. /me crosses his fingers
