Bug Description

After installing 7.04 on Dell Latitude 840C Laptop CDRW drive fails to see almost all cd's. Read one factory music CD and I was able to rip cd. rebooted and cd will not read or eject. Reboot again and removed cd on start up. This is 2nd instance as I reinstalled a fresh copy of 7.04 on a formated drive and cdrw issue reoccurred.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

Have you tried a clean install of 7.10?
Also, could you attach the outputs of these commands? (These files should appear in your home folder)
      uname -a > uname-a.log
      cat /proc/version_signature > proc_version_signature.log
      sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log
      dmesg > dmesg.log
This looks like a kernel problem...

Thanks for the help. I have installed 8.10 and them 9.10 version. Have been busy and honestly not tested CD reads afterwards. Loved the way the wireless hooked right up and forgot anything else. Will test after 1st of the year. I have 2 weeks to learn MAC as my new Deparment Chair is a MAC.
