I'm using 7.04, and I regularly see this error. It is especially annoying since the firefox-plugin doesn't show the error, but just won't work. I could give you a dozen of movies where the error pops up now and then, but that won't really help: most of the time, when retrying, it works.

Michael: I'm getting the error on gusty and feisty.

Applying the patch fixes this.

I have marked this as a confirmed bug since I also have had the same thing happen to me in Gutsy.

Same thing here using Gutsy. And it is problematic in lots of videos I need. Please, someone patch the repository version.

i can confirm the problem !
I built a new version of the package for gutsy with the patch applied.

I join to my message a zip with :
- the update deb file
- the dsc file
- the diff
- the orig.tar.gz

The package fixes the problem and i named it gstreamer0.10-pitfdll_0.9.1.1+cvs20070321-1ubuntu2 so it should install smoothly

You don't need to apply the patch.
Download the attachment to my previous message and extract the zip.
You'll find the update version of the library. Just install it by double
clicking on the file and you'll be ready to go !

Hi,
thanks for reporting this, this is fixed in Debian now and a fixed package should be soon in hardy.

unsubscribing u-u-s from this bug as far as nothing needs sponsorship here. Sebastian feel free to mark it as fix released when the fixed package hits the hardy archive. Thanks.

Fabien,
The package you have attached is for i386, and will not install on 64bit Ubuntu. is there a work around ?

And I have one question, I am not completely clear as to why we need to wait till Hardy gets released to have this confirmed bug corrected in the repo's, that blows me away. Can someone comment ? I'm sitting here with a brand new install of gutsy and a known bug since feisty has a patch and still have to wait another 6 months for a official fix ? I had this problem all along back in feisty but blamed myself because I am sooo noobie at understanding Linux.

I assigned it to someone, because someone has to do something about this. It is a straight-forward fix, without known regressions. So this should just get to the Gutsy repos, or someone should type a convincing reason (not about some policy, a REAL reason) why this shouldn't be fixed in Gutsy.

while over in bug #172258 we get...

this is a duplicate of bug #114079 . I have been waiting for the fix for this for over a year now.

The fact remains that THERE IS NO 64-BIT VERSION OF GSTREAMER0.10-PITFDLL!!!

What is circular about this bug? Somebody said that (in #172258) that the bug is a duplicate, but it isn't. For 32-bit the error was fixed, so this bug can remain closed. That half of wine still needs to be ported to 64-bit is not part of this bug IMHO.
