Bug Description

After installing 12.04.2 onto two different Dell Latittude 6430u machines, neither would boot in uEFI mode.

On looking at the boot options, there was an Ubuntu uEFI boot entry but it was not bootable. To work around this, I had to set the boot mode to "Legacy mode, Secure Boot OFF". At this point, the systems both were bootable.

Prior to this, while in uEFI boot mode, the systems complained about no boot device available.

both systems were installed via PXE using legacy PXE boot mode.

'set debug=all' and looking at the end of the output might help; you can use the --debug-image=all switch to grub-install to put this in place.

Wait. Legacy PXE boot mode? That doesn't give you a UEFI environment ... so I don't know why there was an Ubuntu UEFI boot entry. Perhaps this was left over from a previous installation?

Please try to set Bios default, and make sure the Ubuntu UEFI boot entry is deleted. And install the Ubuntu again.
If you install in Legacy PXE boot mode, the Ubuntu UEFI boot entry won't be created, only boot from legacy mode.
If you install in the UEFI mode, the Ubuntu UEFI boot entry will be created, and check if it can be boot.

This system is able to boot in UEFI mode.
But as Ivan's comment in #3, the system should be installed in the UEFI mode first.

1. Restore BIOS to default settings, make sure it will not boot in Legacy mode
2. Install Ubuntu 12.04.2 with a LiveUSB which was created by the Startup Disk Creator on another system.
3. Reboot, done.

@Po-Hsu Lin,
not quiet sure what you mean in comment #4,
So, after you do the test, could it boot to UEFI mode?

from comment#4,
This system is able to boot in UEFI mode.
Seems the systems can boot in uEFI mode, so I set this bug to invalid.
if anything unfixed, please reopen this bug or issue another bug for that.
