Bug Description

The Harman Kardon Soundstick II speakers do not seem to be fully compatible with Linux (or the other way around). The loudest possible sound on Ubuntu is still very soft.

This speaker symptom cannot possibly be an Ubuntu/Linux issue. According to http://www.harmankardon.com/faq/showfaq.aspx?Region=USA&Country=US&Language=ENG&lstProduct=SOUNDSTICKSII , these speakers use a normal analog output.

What you really should be asking is whether your _sound card_ is configured properly. Are the levels increased properly? Please read http://www.linux-sound.info/alsa/index.php?task=support and tell me the URL of the paste generated by the script linked from that page.

Dear Mr. Daniel T Chen,

It seems that if I connect the speakers and put the plug in the socket prior
to system start-up, they do work like they are supposed to. Nevertheless, I
have attached the output of
http://www.linux-sound.info/alsa/index.php?task=support .

Thank you very much for your kind help.

With kind regards,

Jonathan

In Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS Dapper Drake, the speakers work like they are supposed to. However, in the newer Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn, the speakers are significantly softer.
