Bug Description

So, we currently support Flickr and it looks like Instagram will be landing early during the S cycle. These two protocols are both primarily image-sharing sites, and friends-app handles this a little bit goofily, displaying the image caption but requiring a click in order to even see the thumbnail.

i think the layout should be changed so that image thumbnails are always displayed (even when the message details are collapsed), and it should probably be arranged at the top of the message, with the caption beneath it. It would be harmlessly hidden for messages that don't have thumbnails, but it would make flickr, instagram, and facebook links look a bit more attractive.

(we should also look into using larger thumbnails / scaling them so they take the whole width of the column, that would be really sexy)

What is the current status of this? Does pic.twitter.com work?

I had started a branch to support twitpic but after a few days of struggling with oauth I gave up on it. No changes to friends-app were ever made to display images in a nicer way. Feel free to take a stab at this if you want to.

Does this branch still exist? Might be a good starting point for me.

Oh, I was actually just asking for displaying images. Your branch seems to implement uploading.

"Does pic.twitter.com work?" "I started a branch to implement twitpic" "Does this branch still exist?" "Yep, here"

That's all I've done so far (it never worked). Feel free to experiment with it.

This is mostly implemented in a branch of mine. It is based on my other changes so these have to land first before I can propose it for merging.

The only thing that is missing is storing settings (its very important imo that users can disable this feature as it takes bandwith).
