Bug Description

I got an ubuntu CD from Shipit, I've checked the integrity. After overcoming 2 problems earlier, I've reached the Migration Step, but When I get to the Windows migration tool and select my user accounts, enter in passwords and click "Forward", nothing happens. The button appears to depress and a "/mnt/migrationassistant" drive briefly appears on the left of my desktop before disappearing. I can continue to press the "Forward" button but nothing happens except the drive appears and then disappears. (Same problem as bozanimal http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...87#post2746987, same text also)

Hi, thank you for the bug. As far as I can conduct from your description, this is a bug in ubiquity.
I think I saw a similar bug before, but I can't find it right now. But could you please run the installer again anyway and attach /var/log/syslog and /var/log/partman (as described at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingUbiquity/AttachingLogs)?
Thank you very much.

At wiki.ubuntu, they describe how to do all that in Ubuntu live CD, but my internet connection doesnt seem to work in Ubuntu (well, thats another problem, lets leave it aside for the moment) so, can I somehow get the Syslog and partman diles in XP and THEN attach it???

I got the Connection working in Ubuntu(YAY!!).. but I have another doubt (BOOOO!!)
My installer doesnt crash, it just doesnt proceed after the migration step. Will the Logs still show the problem?
Anyway, I'll be attaching them in my next comment...

First of all, sorry for the late reply.
Normally the installer prints some debugging info in those files. So it might very well be that some indication is saved in that file, even if the installer didn't crash. Without those files, we can't really determine what's causing this problem.

phoenixankit,

Running the installer with the --debug option (`ubiquity --debug` in a terminal) and attaching /var/log/installer/debug and /var/log/syslog would be very helpful. Just run the installer up to the point where it hangs.

Thanks!
