Install fails with Kubuntu 13.04 on UEFI system

Bug Description

I installed kubuntu 13.04 on a computer with UEFI and it didn't set up Grub right so nothing would boot
then I installed ubuntu unity 13.04 and it also installed fine
then I installed Kubuntu again and it consistently failed to install with an error

There's a bit more than that though.

I wonder if this is the perennial problem with some firmware not having enough variable space. The kernel folks know more about that than I do ...

@Steve Riley:
Is your Laptops one of those, which has a real harddisk AND a SSD inside (hybrid-harddisk) ?
If yes, then my research has lead me to the point, that the installer falsely assumes, there is a full operateable raid-controller inside, which is not.

This release of Ubuntu is no longer receiving maintenance updates. If this is still an issue on a maintained version of Ubuntu please let us know.
