Bug Description

Binary package hint: debian-installer

Try to install Xubuntu (I tried 6.10 and 7.04) on a Gateway Astro. It fails every time.

Try 4:
So I retied with the Xubuntu Alternate Install CD 6.06 this time and chose to intall in Text Mode.
The computer gives a warning that it is "Entering Low Memory Mode."
After choosing country (USA), it strangely fail to automatically detect that there was a American English keyboard.
(It thought there was none.)
The next stage "Detect and Mount CD-ROM" is where it fails. (It fails with 6.10 and 7.04 as well.)
It states that the installation CD could not be mounted and the computer thinks maybe the CD is not in the drive.
It asks for me to insert the disk and try again I do so, but the CD wont mount.

Please provide more information. For example, at what point of the installation does it fail?

Press Alt-F2 to switch to the second console (Alt-F1 switches back) and run 'ls /sys/block'; what is the output?

Please also attach the output of 'lspci -vvnn'. I'm afraid there's no easy way to get that information out; you'll have to transcribe it or take a photo of the screen.

(It would be best to carry out these tests on 7.04, assuming the failure mode is the same.)
