Bug Description

I tried to play an avi video with totem-gstreamer (a DVD rip) and when pressing
"f" to go full-screen the video isn't resized. Please have a look at the
attachment to see what I mean.

PS: it's with totem 0.100 and gstreamer 0.8.8

what videosink are you using (gstreamer-properties to choose the sink) ?

Julien Olivier (julo) wrote :

I used SDL (not sure why)...

Then I changed it to XWindows (X11/Xshm/Xv) and it works much better. I don't
have the problem anymore.

So this bug seems to only affect the SDL video sink (I changed the summary
accordingly).

Daniel, any idea of that's an xorg issue ?

Sounds like SDL doesn't scale videos.

right, so what package is to blame ? xorg ?

libsdl.

Does it work to use, e.g. mplayer -vo sdl ? sdl is capable of using Xv for
scaling and this has worked in the past, so it seems possible that it is a
problem with the gstreamer plugin

Julien Olivier (julo) wrote :

With "mplayer -vo sdl -fs", the video is scaled perfectly to fullscreen.

upstream opinion on this:

<seb128> BBB: if you use sdlvideosink the resize/fullscreen doesn't do anything
in totem ... totem or gst-plugins bug ?
<BBB> seb128, sdl? :)
<seb128> BBB: no, mplayer works fine
<BBB> sdl cannot embed nicely
<BBB> mplayer never embeds

Setting low priority, sdl is not used by many people and it's not clear what package is to blame for that

I'm not suffering from this anymore because I switched to XV output, but I can confirm that the bug is still present when using SDL output.

is there any reason that anyone would use SDL?

Revision history for this message
Julien Olivier (julo) wrote :

No clue... I used to have gstreamer configured to use SDL as the default output by error, and that's how I discovered this bug. Bug the SDL output is not installed by default in Ubuntu. So I guess this bug won't affect many people...
