I took the merge-o-matic output and resolved the trivial conflicts in debian/rules and usr/sbin/

laptop-mode-tools (1.34-1ubuntu1) gutsy; urgency=low d/laptop- mode: Check if laptop mode is disabled in
/etc/default/ laptop- mode (that's the file laptop_mode looks into, too, acpi-support. laptop- mode-tools. postinst: Create /etc/default/ laptop- mode LAPTOP_ MODE=false) if the file does not exist yet and we laptop_ mode: Do not parse arguments, ignore "force" and laptop_ mode: Do not read $ACTIVATE_ WITH_POSSIBLE_ DATA_LOSS laptop- mode-state to see if state has changed.
