I'm not sure what's going on here.

In lp:~charlesk/indicator-datetime/lp-1196059, I'm expanding that error message to include the format string that indicator-datetime-service is having trouble with. Could you please update this ticket with that new information after this patch lands?

Hi
I'm not sure to follow you there.
Did you find the bug, or did you simply made the error "more meaningful" for better analysis ?

Because I recently moved to 13.10, and I'm facing exactly the same issue as originally described by Fabio (above).
Only difference is that, when I try to select anything in the format but the time (using gnome-control-center date&time module), the error message displayed in the panel is looking like this one :
      Unsupported date format "%b %e %H:%M:%S"

I'm using a package newer than the one described just above:
ii indicator-datetime 13.10.0+13.10.20131023.2-0ubuntu1 amd64 Simple clock

What should I do ?
Thanks

I can confirm this is still present in some cases. I don't have the problem on my standard desktop machine running Saucy, but I do have it on my Acer C720 Chromebook running Saucy.

indicator-datetime:
  Installed: 13.10.0+13.10.20131023.2-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 13.10.0+13.10.20131023.2-0ubuntu1

I get "unsupported date format "%a %b %e %H:%M"" when I try to enable weekday, day, and month.

Perplexingly, the same format works just fine from the terminal:

me@chrubuntu:~$ date +"%a %b %e %H:%M"
Mon Feb 10 16:22

Is the indicator referencing a different date command?

I had this problem, and also had another problem related with the use of UTF-8 in my filesystem. I didn't think there was a link between both, but solving the second problem solved the first.
My system was not using UTF-8 even if my etc/defaul/locale said so.

My problem is described here and the solution to it is nicely explained there as well.

I found that this did not work, even with the fixed package, like the commenter in comment #7. I did manage to get it working:

I noticed that my LANGUAGE environment variable had "en" in it twice, e.g.: LANAGUAGE="en<newline>en". I thought that was a bit odd. This was only present when I logged in via the GUI -- it was not present if I logged in on a virtual terminal (Ctrl+Alt+F1 then log in).

In the System Settings -> Language Support, I noticed that "English" was the highest priority language in the Language tab, but Regional Formats tab had "English (United Kingdom)". I put "English (United Kingdom)" at the top of the list in the Languages tab, click Apply System Wide. This seemed to resolve it for me.

I think something odd happens when you have a different primary locale for the Language and Regional Settings tab.

Once I made those changes, I could set the date & time indicator to include the day of the week, date and month without any errors. That did not work before.
