Bug Description

Binary package hint: ark

(This is my first Bug Report, I had like to receive many opinions to improve myself)
(I don't speak english very well, please forgive me)
(I use the french version of kubuntu, so the commands may differ)
This bug is NOT the same as #118893

Steps to reproduce:
(unzip several archives)
download or create many .zip (or .tgz)
try to unzip them all (select them all in konqueror, right click, extract > extract here)
this will launch several ark process
wait several minutes
with ProcessTable (kde), you will see ark crashing (ie: ark not responding)
Maybe this shouldn't launch several process and should launch one process at a time (with a waiting list?)

(manipulate archive(s) with many files inside)
open/extract an archive with many files (~300) inside
ark crashes (even if you wait several minutes)
edit:this one seems to be gone in Hardy (kde 3.5.9 and ark 2.6.4)

version information
kubuntu feisty fawn 7.04 (with only official sources.list with multiverse, universe and backports enabled)
kde 3.5.6
(ark 2.6.4)
(first bug still happen in Kubuntu Hardy "kde 3 edition" with kde 3.5.9 and ark 2.6.4)

NB: (not really bug related): I thought file-roller and ark were just GUI for unzip, unrar..., while file-roller doesn't crash, even with very big archives
that's why I think it's ark related

edit: correct version of ark

Good evening,

I am wondering if you are still having problems with ark crashing when working with many archives? If you are still having problems with ark crashing could you please update with the current version of ark and what you mean by many files?

Thanks,

jonathan

Good morning,
I am still having problems with ark
current version of ark is still 2.4.6 (kde 3.5.9, Kubuntu Hardy "kde 3 edition")

ark does crash with 25 files (with 40 images in each file)

there is a difference between feisty's ark and hardy's ark :
in hardy : ark opens as many windows as you have files selected and some files (zip) will be unzip correctly.
But some will never finish.

NB: the problem may be corrected in kde4 with kuiserver (kjob)

I think there is a bug because ark try to unzip them all at once (there is X ark's process while unzipping X files (or unrarring, this is not related to that) )

I should have done two bugs reports : there is a bug when you work with many files (25 files.zip with 40 images in)

and there was a bug when you tried to work with an archive with many (~300) files in. But this is no longer the case (tried with an archive with 445 files in).
I will edit the description of the bug if I can.
