Bug Description

LibreOffice on Ubuntu 13.04 needs an update to 4.0.4 for quite a set of critical fixes.

 * https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/4.0.3/RC2
 * https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/4.0.4/RC1
 * https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/4.0.4/RC2

 * see https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/technical-board/2012-June/001283.html ff.

[TESTCASE]

 * see https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/technical-board/2012-June/001283.html ff.

 * in testing by the popular ppas:
   https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/libreoffice-4-0 (5900 installs on raring)
   https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ppa (>11.000 install on raring)

 * no script testplan, that's a libreoffice update, work with the new version, open documents with the different tools, edit some, see if you run into any new issue

[Regression Potential]

 * from upstream:
   - https://bugs.freedesktop.org/report.cgi?x_axis_field=version&y_axis_field=component&z_axis_field=&query_format=report-table&short_desc_type=allwordssubstr&short_desc=&product=LibreOffice&bug_status=NEW&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=REOPENED&bug_status=RESOLVED&bug_status=VERIFIED&bug_status=CLOSED&bug_status=PLEASETEST&resolution=---&resolution=FIXED&longdesc_type=allwordssubstr&longdesc=&bug_file_loc_type=allwordssubstr&bug_file_loc=&status_whiteboard_type=allwordssubstr&status_whiteboard=&keywords_type=allwords&keywords=regression%2C+&bug_id=&bug_id_type=anyexact&version=4.0.3.1+rc&version=4.0.3.2+rc&version=4.0.3.3+release&version=4.0.4.1+rc&version=4.0.4.2+release&emailtype1=substring&email1=&emailtype2=substring&email2=&emailtype3=substring&email3=&chfieldvalue=&chfieldfrom=&chfieldto=Now&j_top=AND&f1=status_whiteboard&o1=notregexp&v1=target%3A4.0&f2=noop&o2=noop&v2=&format=table&action=wrap
   - note that upstream marks bugs as the "earliest _known_ version" showing the defect.
     It can thus be assumed that these (currently 16) bugs are already in 4.0.2 as
     released with raring.
 * from vendor patches:
   - the fix for bug 1085169 has a performance impact (see bug 1204592) -- note that
     this fix is in upstream 4.1.0 and still is generally appreciated. As even this
     performance impact is considered a unacceptable regression for an SRU, we need to
     the patch was left unapplied. Note that this creates a slightly different build
     than what we tested so extensively in the ppas.

I think LibreOffice packages should be updated to 4.0.4 release on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS too, why LTS users should use old and buggy LibreOffice release?

Look at bug #1196263 before updating to LibreOffice 4.0.4 - according to the reported this bug didn't exist in older 4.0.x releases

The attachment "lo-402-to-404.diff" seems to be a debdiff. The ubuntu-sponsors team has been subscribed to the bug report so that they can review and hopefully sponsor the debdiff. If the attachment isn't a patch, please remove the "patch" flag from the attachment, remove the "patch" tag, and if you are member of the ~ubuntu-sponsors, unsubscribe the team.

The patch is hard to review, because it is huge and it says that a bunch of binary files are different. Can you attach the new upstream tarballs or point to the place where it can be retrived, and attach a diff just for the debian/ directory?

The changelog says "disable unity integration for backports". Why?

You can download the to-be-uploaded package at:

 https://launchpad.net/~bjoern-michaelsen/+archive/libreoffice-precisetest-20120327/+sourcepub/3371647/+listing-archive-extra

Unity older than on raring doesnt handle the internal unity integration. Actually its a miracle that it works at all there. Thus disabling this for backports to prevent bogus bugreports. Note the backports are in the ppa for a long time already with this. See also discussion on the LibreOffice packaging list.

Bjoern is handling this, and other sponsors shouldn't really touch a LibO SRU without coordinating with Bjoern, so unsubscribing sponsors.

Do you have a source_changes to go along with this for uploading? I don't see one on people.c.c.

Björn Michaelsen (bjoern-michaelsen) wrote :

@pitti: The _source.changes was lost when I created the 4.0.5 build for the ppa. I recreated the whole package (without recreating tarballs) and uploaded it to:
 http://people.canonical.com/~bjoern/raring/4.0.4/
You will find not only a _source.changes, but also a diff vs. 4.0.2 there.
