Bug Description

The user-show-menu=false option is gone in 13.04.

This is useful for environments that want to hide the list of users available.

This is the key that was added in 0.3.4.3 (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-session/0.3.4.3-0ubuntu1) and was removed when the user-switcher menu was merged into the session menu in 12.10 (http://design.canonical.com/2012/04/status-menus/).

Since it's been removed for almost a year without a complaint, I'm hesitant to re-add it without a use case.

And, since there's not a bug ticket that goes along with the feature when it was added in 0.3.4.3, there's nothing in launchpad explaining what this feature was originally for.

What is the use case for re-adding this feature?

Our enterprise customers running 12.04 LTS are going to want a similar way to hide user listings when they upgrade to the next LTS release.

Specially if they have a thousand local users configured on their systems, or they just want to hide user lists simply because of security concerns, etc.

They probably haven't complained, because they're quite rightly and happily using the LTS version.

Jonathan, for the sort of customers who use this option, how useful would be a GUI for it?

Matthew, as long as it's configurable via DConf and thus setable system-wide via /etc/dconf/, I think they'll be fine with it.

Stealing this assignment; I'm starting to work through desktop-trusty bugs and this seems fixable.
