Bug Description

Binary package hint: egroupware

A new stable version of eGroupWare was released on 4 June. Version 1.4 contains many enhancements which will greatly benefit Ubuntu users.

More information is available on SF:
https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=78745&package_id=79971&release_id=513311

This version is already packaged in Debian Experimental:
http://packages.debian.org/experimental/web/egroupware

...however, the Debian version is missing the new egroupware-gallery module package:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/egroupware/eGroupWare-gallery-1.4.001.tar.bz2?use_mirror=umn

Could we please add this package in Ubuntu? Thanks!

Yes.

eGroupware versions are badly lagging. It took many many months for the 1.2 version to be included in Ubuntu. It is taking too long to add the current stable version (1.4). Most of eGroupware is mostly php so updating it shouldn't be much of a problem.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but is this package still being actively maintained in Ubuntu?

This is a very powerful suite of programs and the new version will offer so much more to Ubuntu users and administrators. This version was released two and a half months ago and has been in Debian Experimental since shortly after that.

I'm not sure what sorts of hurdles exist with bringing this much-improved version onboard. I've talked to other administrators who were running the developmental 1.3 version on operational systems. I currently run 1.2 on my server and I'll be more than happy to help test new packages. Please let me know if I can help in any way. Thanks!

As far as I can see, this package has never actually been maintained in Ubuntu, just because nobody showed enough interest in it. If you use it, you are most welcomed to care for it, of course! https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment has some initial reading about how to get involved.

Thank you!

Olek, please do not subscribe random people to such bugs (like ubuntu-archive and Peter Eisentraut).

I too would love to see this package upgraded. I did successfully get it installed on my Gutsy installation with the help of some guys at irc #groupware seems there is a debian user over there that helped me get setup. I would love to see this upgraded to the 1.4 version for Hardy that I'm currently on. I'm not a programmer, or anything of the sort, lest I would think of maintaining. It is very nice having the automatic installation and setup, helps me greatly as just a user!
