I confirm this bug in Jaunty and in Karmic too. (in Italian language)

There are a lot of translated string not coming up because of this bug.

In Karmic is also more evident because of the new "Ubuntu Software Store".

I just checked a fresh install and when installing with network support the package descriptions are there and indexed in karmic. There is still the case that in a networkless install they will be missing until the first upate and then there needs to be a software-center DB update.

The same is true for synaptic, ubuntu is installed from the dekstop CD with network, the descriptions are translated (to the extend that we have translations of course) :)

Is there a fix for installations connected to the Internet but still having the issue (in Synaptic) ?

@chancellor: you assigned this bug to yourself some time ago. Are you intending to work on it?. If you are, please ignore this comment, but if you aren't, perhaps you'd like to remove the assignation until you actually have time to start working on it.

Otherwise, it might give the impression to other users that someone is already looking into this right now, and might stop a maintainer or another contributor working on this particular bug and move on to other ones requiring attention.

Thanks!
