Bug Description

When I attempt to play an MP3 stream from streamtuner (SHOUTcast) in Audacious with new config files , I get the following error message:

Unable to play files.

The following files could not be played. Please check that:
1. they are accessible.
2. you have enabled the media plugins required.

This happens with any stream. Local files play fine.

I also tried using local playlists containing streams and got the same result. I loaded a stream from Xiph and, in addition to that error, the file browser appears even though I didn't click Add Files.

What output do you get in the console? What sort of internet connection
do you have?

As this is an issue in audacious-plugins' curl source, and not in
Audacious, reassigning to Audacious-Plugins package and marking invalid.

 affects ubuntu/audacious-plugins
 status new

 affects ubuntu/audacious
 status invalid

Thanks.

Hi,

Can you explain what you are confirming, for example, please:
  * include what sort of network connection you have
  * what stream you are trying to play
  * what happens when you try to play it

Also, if it's a timeout, try closing Audacious and
running from a terminal (you may need to install the mcs-utils package
though):
  mcs-setconfval audacious curl curl_timeout 10

Thanks!

The streams are from:

www.radioakropolis.cz - http://www.radioakropolis.cz:8000/highest.ogg
somafm.com - http://scfire-ntc-aa03.stream.aol.com:80/stream/1018

I can play them in Rhytmbox with no problems. As for my internet connection, this is unlikely to be an issue, both due to the error message of Audacious and the fact that I can play the streams in Rhytmbox with no problems.

It's not a timeout, the error message pops up when trying to play the streams, as described in this bug, stating that either the codecs aren't present or they are not correctly set up (both of which is untrue).

Hi everyone,
The cause of this bug is probably that the curl plugin is missing. Try installing audacious-plugins-extra (which contains the curl plugin): it should work.
That is indeed a bug (as playing a stream is nothing of "extra"), and I'm going to upload a fix for it. But please first confirm it works with -extra installed.

Confirmed. Running a manual build with debuild against the debianised
source places the curl plugin in -extra.

This should be reported upstream to debian too.

The patch should be as simple as moving the plugin to the other file
list and removing it from audacious-plugins-extra.

Yes, but honestly, the -plugins-extra package is stupid to begin with,
and is a packaging choice made by le_vert which I do not necessarily
agree with.

I hope that the packaging of 1.4 is done in a better way (individual
packages for each plugin + metapackages for both -plugins and
- -plugins-extra), which would accomplish the purpose of -plugins and
- -plugins-extra in a much better way.

Oh well. Maybe I will bring it up with him again once I stabilise 1.4 :)

Thanks, Adrien. I assumed I could do that, but didn't give a try.

By the way, since installation of ubuntu headers 2.6.22.13 and up, each
time I boot my PC, I get a error 15: file not found message. I have to
boot choosing the 2.6.22.12 version. Shall I also remove the higher
versions and reinstall them? Or shall I report a bug?
