Yep, mine crashes almost everytime I try to use it. Very frustrating. It did allow me to finish installing an application first.

Could you please name a package that you have to select to make gnome-app-install crash?

Which themes (icons) do you use?

I had just installed the Alpha 2 version 7.10 ubuntu with the standard
theme. I was trying to configure the desktop and some additional progs,
but got so many apps closing on me without warning that I backed off the
version 7.04 for now. A little more stable.

One other problem of note you may want to know about:

I have VoIP service with Sunrocket.com They have a "gizmo" that plugs
in right in front of the comcast.net cable modem. Under 7.10 I did not
have any connectivity unless I disconnected the VoIP "gizmo". Under
7.04 I did. If that helps.

Great product so far!!!

I understand why you ask these questions. My brother used to be a
programmer. And I helped him debug things. I actually hadn't run or
select any packages for it to crash. It simply crashes as soon as I
turn it on. Sometimes it takes it a minute or so, but I could just let
it sit there and then it would crash. Not sure if there were any
conflicts going on between two programs??? Sometimes I could try to
install a program, like blender, then as I'm installing blender, then
window would come up telling me that it was crashing. One thing you may
want to keep in mind. I don't know if you remember me telling you that
I have a cable modem with comcast and have VoIP with Sunrocket or not.
But I was having connectivity problems with 7.10 without trying to
install any programs. So, I don't know if part of it might be that it
was trying to get on the Internet trying to download some of the
components or not was helping some of the problems or not?

Hope that helps.

Oh, one other bug I noticed but didn't know how to report that you may
want to know about. When I tried to "trash" something, it said the
application tried to load incorrectly and that it was not loaded,
therefore "trash" could not accept anything into it. And if hitting the
delete key did get rid of something I had no way of opening trash to get
rid of it or to see if it actually resided inside of trash. So, "trash"
failed to load properly bug fix may want to be considered too.

Hey, who do I need to speak to about perhaps helping with the "look" of
Ubuntu? I am an artist and am currently becoming familiar with various
art progs in Linux. I would love to offer "screenshot" ideas of how
Linux could look. I think I may have some ideas that haven't been
considered before.

Thanks,

You should open a new bug report for a new problem. That makes it easier to track the problem. Futhermore you should copy and paste the exact error messages or provide a screenshot.

There is an Ubuntu art team.

You don't need to apologize. I hope that I was not to harsh.

Not in the slightest. No offense taken here. I just believe this world
would be a better place if people learned how to be more humble and
gracious. So, I just wanted to apologize. That's all.

One problem I'm having and it sounds like you know kubuntu inside and
out. My "su" no longer works. I have NO administration abilities.
What went wrong? I'm using kubuntu 7.04. I've been trying to install
Opera. I used Adept to try to find it, and nothing came up. So I went
to their website and downloaded the .deb package. I don't seem to have
superuser statis so that doesn't work. So, I'm stuck. Any suggestions?

Or maybe a link of where I could go to get help? I'm very new to
Ubuntu.

Thanks in advance.

My final comment: There is no password for the root/super user in Ubuntu. Use sudo instead.
