python bindings not included

It would be great to include the perl binding as well, in the regular openbabel distribution or in a separate package.

Hrm, is something actually using this? Or are you planning on writing
some scripts for them? I guess we could do this, if there is interest.
If you are an apt Perl hacker, maybe you could review the bindings and
see whether their quality is acceptable.

The openbabel-perl API is quite good and used by quite a few people I know. Right now, we all have to compile openbabel from sources instead of using the deb package available in ubuntu. From sources, the compilation of this binding is very easy : cd scripts/perl && perl Makefile.PL && make && make test && make install (see http://openbabel.org/wiki/Install_(source_code)#Install_the_Perl_bindings_globally ). I'm not familiar at all with the process of creating packages, but I'm willing to help, if needed.

openbabel 2.3.0 will ship a libopenbabel-perl package. HTH
