Thank you for your bug. What plugin do you use? Does it happen using firefox or not?

Firefox is fine (I just WAAAY prefer Gnome's browser for speed ...
hint hint). dpkg -l shows
ii libswfdec0.3 0.3.6-2.2
               SWF (Macromedia Flash) decoder library

Same problem here. I would add that any flash content does this for me. Browser windows disappear when closed but they are still in memory. Opening (and eventually closing) further windows leads to huge CPU and memory consumption and finally epiphany crashes.

One remarkable thing is with killing epiphany. When I close all epiphany windows and then killall epiphany-browser, I see a lot of small windows appearing for a while (not enough time to even display its contents but it definately appears on screen and in tasklist).

I saw a similar window once and it said something about script slowing down the computer. It may be related to compiz as well, will investigate further.

I have no such problems with firefox.

If I open only pages without flash, epiphany closes OK and no process remains. Once I open something with flash content, closing any further ephy tab or window (even without flash) produces something like this ...

sys:1: Warning: IA__g_object_remove_toggle_ref: couldn't find toggle ref 0xb4fa4a30(0x8ac07d4)

... and of course there is remaining ephy process even after closing all windows.

I'm willing to produce some more debug information, just tell me what exactly you need.

The problem is with epiphany-extensions, disabling all of them or uninstalling the package solves the problem. I have not been able to find out which specific extension causes the problem.

Daengbo, does removing or disabling epiphany-extensions help you?

If yes, then this bug can be marked as confirmed and moved to epiphany-extensions package.

It happens with other types of video, too, not only flash. Just open any video in stage6.com (divx videos), close the tab and watch it happen.

So probably any browser plugin? Maybe even java plugin.

Can anyone confirm it is caused by epiphany-extensions?

I just posted a bug #129345 for this with flashplugin-nonfree. Probably a dupe.

This bug got me looking into the problem being related to epiphany-extensions. Removing all extensions the problem seems to be fixed. After adding extensions back untill the problem reappeared , it looks like it's caused by the "Creative Commons license viewer(cc-license-viewer.py)" and the "Favicon fallback( favicon.py)" extensions.

I also have this occuring with pages without flash.

http://quicktrip.brusselsairlines.com has a Javascript warning the session is lost after a few minutes if a ticket purchase is not completed.
The only problem is I closed the window or tab long ago and I suddenly get a popup warning about the session as if the page was still opened.

Confirmed from several reports. Still happens with new epiphany-browser 2.19.6-0ubuntu1 and epiphany-extensions 2.19.6-0ubuntu1.

This is happening with Totem NSPlugin too. It does seem this is affecting all plugins.

I think the culprit is the feed reader extension. I deactivated it and it seems to work now. I'm not 110% sure it really was that one.

Jeff Fortin Tam (kiddo) wrote :

actually no, I did some more testing, and the feed reader extension is not the problem. The problem is the "creative commons license viewer" extension, and I'm pretty sure about that. At least that solved the problem in my case. What about you?

Jan Mynarik (jan-mynarik) wrote :

From my testing I thought it was Python Console but the problem started appearing after a while even with Python Console disabled. Please let us know if disabling CC license viewer helps even after a few days of using. I think I had this extension disabled and the problem was still persisting for me.

Please see my comment above, at the very least it's the "Creative Commons license viewer(cc-license-viewer.py)" and the "Favicon fallback( favicon.py)".

For me there are 4 extensions causing the same problem (and it doesn't need any flash or javascript):
- Creative Commons
- Epilicious
- Favicon
- Python

Maybe a python problem?

Yes, I confirm only the Epilicious extension prevents Ephy from closing on my machine.

It seems that the problem is gone on up-to-date Ubuntu Gutsy - epiphany
2.20.0-0ubuntu1, epiphany-extensions 2.20.0-0ubuntu1, python-gobject/pygobject
2.14.0-0ubuntu1, python-gtk2/pygtk 2.12.0-0ubuntu1.

Everything works OK now! Thanks. Can someone else confirm?
