Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

There is currently no configuration option to select what new distribution releases the user wants to see. There should be a way to say:

Show new distribution release information:
[ ] do not show
[ ] show only for long term support releases
[ ] show all new releases

This setting should be done in the software-properties configuration tool under the "updates" tab.

This will also require a new "LTS" key in the meta-release information file and improvments to the parser so that it honors this flag and search for a new matching LTS release.

Wouldn't it be logical to add an "also show devel releases" option? Maybe with the notice that this is only adviceable for non-production machines or something like that.

Marking it as "later" so that it gets implemented early for the hardy cycle. This is only required for hardy-final as it affects only LTS->LTS updates.

What happened to this? Can we get some kind of UI here for 8.04.1, so that users who want to upgrade along the non-LTS track don't get effectively stuck on 8.04?

This is fixed in 8.04 (the status in the bug was not updated). Its implemented in software properties (System/Admin/Software Sources in the Updates tab).
