Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Gutsy: gnome-appearance-properties

Appearance Preferences window, Background tab, needs <No Wallpaper> selection.
Without a <No Wallpaper> selection you cannot set the desktop background to a solid color.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. If you want set a color background you should select the "No Wallpaper", how are you planning to see the color if you have a background on top of it?. however you can try is install the gnome-background package, in that package there is a couple of transparent wallpapers and you will see the color in the back. thanks

Changed in gnome-control-center:
assignee: nobody → desktop-bugs
status: New → Invalid

Just my point! There is no <No Wallpaper> selection as there is in Feisty. Thus I cannot see the color.
Please see the attached picture of the Appearance Preferences window, Background tab. Thanks.

I was also affected by this recently on 8.04. I ended up creating a 1x1 image in the color I desired. Not very intuitive.
