Bug Description
Today I went to install Dapper on a server, and the CD-ROM drive wouldn't work, and I didn't have another one available. So, I was going to try the minimal installer. I copied the ISO to the box, and then created a partition on the hard drive using image found here:
I dd'ed this to the partition, set up a lilo entry (this was an upgrade from an Mandriva install), and booted the image. The installer started normally, and ran fine (found the iso) until it tried to load the installer components from the CD. It said no kernel modules were available, most likely due to a different version of the kernel in the installer vs. that on the CD. Since you can no longer get 6.06 ISO's (only 6.06.1) I could not proceed with this install.
I also tried:
The installer boot.img needs to be brought in sync with the current ISO's.
I'd suggest you try http:// us.archive. ubuntu. com/ubuntu/ dists/dapper- updates/ main/installer- i386/current/ images/ hd-media/ boot.img. gz (Note the -updates in the URL), since the dapper kernel has been updated since the release, and the installer in -updates should be able to cope with that.
